Meet Mel Cassidy: Our LGBTQIA+ Champion

What Is An LGBTQIA+ Champion?

Our LGBTQIA+ Champion is a dedicated point of contact for people who would like guidance, support or simply someone to talk to. They work to promote inclusion, challenge discrimination and help ensure that LGBTQIA+ voices are heard and valued across our organisation. This is a safe space where confidentiality is taken seriously. If you need support, our champion will:

  • Provide a confidential and supportive listening space
  • Offer guidance and practical advice
  • Help you understand your options
  • Support you in raising concerns formally if needed
  • Signpost you to specialist external organisations
  • Work with staff to help resolve inclusion-related issues

If you are ever in immediate danger, please contact emergency services.

About Mel

Mel Cassidy is a Skills & Development coach from Kent whose passion extends far beyond teaching life changing skills to healthcare apprentices. When she isn't tending to her vegetable patch on a cold spring morning, you might find her snorkeling with sharks! Or maybe just enjoying the company of some highland cows. In any case, Mel is a naturally empathetic person who finds a way to make anything joyful. We want to give special thanks to her for helping to create this role and taking on the responsibility.

Mel Cassidy:

"I volunteered for this role as I feel that everyone should have someone to talk to and I wish I had spoken to someone earlier in life when I had different feelings to my peers"

Looking Ahead

The appointment of an LGBTQIA+ Champion marks an important step in our ongoing commitment to being an inclusive training provider. We recognise that inclusion is a continuous journey and we're proud to take this practical step forward with Mel at the helm.

Mel has had a long career in healthcare. She often experienced discrimination and felt she could not talk about it. Now she can be there for others, providing guidance, support and a space where they'll always be heard. Our aim is to foster a genuine sense of safety, understanding, and empathy within the community. We want you to know that your voices are heard, your experiences are valued, and you are not alone. If you would like to chat to Mel please reach out below.
